According to a survey by PwC, women returning to the workforce after a career break may boost the economies of nine Middle Eastern and North African countries, including Egypt, by $385 billion.

This possibility of growing GDP underlines the region’s considerable employment potential. This will drive employers to implement supporting measures to ensure a seamless transition for women returning to the workforce in nine Middle Eastern and North African nations.

The findings are based on information received from over 1,200 women in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Bahrain, and Jordan, with additional respondents from Kuwait, Lebanon, and Oman.

According to the poll, almost half of all working women in the MENA had taken career pauses, frequently due to family and caregiving duties, with more than 68 percent at professional levels or above.

According to the survey, 82 percent of women returning to work believe they can reach top-level positions. However, 49 percent of them have acknowledged that they have faced rejections due to gaps in their resumes. The survey considered the perspectives of CEOs in the region and suggested that introducing flexible working models for women could generate approximately $4.3 billion in GDP gains across the nine surveyed countries.
