UNESCO Unveils Conditions and Necessary Documents to Apply for the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women’s Program in 2024

The Egyptian National Committee for UNESCO is collaborating with the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo to apply for the L’Oréal-UNESCO Program for Women in Science 2024. The primary objective of this initiative is to encourage the participation of young women in Egypt in the field of science.

It also aims to recognize and reward the accomplishments of gifted young women in various scientific disciplines such as life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, information sciences, and the universe.

The program is seeking postdoctoral researchers who hold a PhD in one of the following fields: life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, earth sciences, and the universe.

For PhDs obtained between 2019-2023, the applicant must be an Egyptian national and currently work in a research lab, institute, or university located in Egypt. Additionally, female candidates should not be over 45 years old by the end of the application period.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must satisfy the following requirements: they must hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in one of the following fields: life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, geosciences, or universe studies. Additionally, candidates must be registered in the second year of a doctoral program or one year prior to the dissertation defense, and they must be Egyptian nationals. It is also necessary that they work in a research laboratory, institute, or university in Egypt. Moreover, applicants should be below 35 years of age by the end of the application period.

The program aims to recognize and support talented young women researchers in Egypt by honoring three of them for the quality of their research work and encouraging them to pursue a successful career in science. Additionally, the program provides grants to Egyptian researchers working on postdoctoral studies at a research laboratory, institute or university in Egypt.

Two grants worth Euro10,000 (or equivalent in local currency) are offered for this purpose. Moreover, the program awards one grant worth 6,000 Euros (or equivalent in local currency) to an Egyptian researcher pursuing her doctoral studies at a research laboratory, institute or university in Egypt. The grant is intended to cover research expenses, or travel and accommodation costs related to scientific visits, training, and specialized courses for at least two months abroad. All grants should be utilized within a maximum of one year from the day of celebration.
