by Nada Khaled

The Institute of National Planning, in collaboration with the National Council for Women and the ILO International Training Centre in Turin, Italy, has successfully concluded the “Integrating Women’s Needs into Equal Opportunity Planning and Women’s Empowerment in Public Life in Egypt” program.

The program aimed to increase the participation of women in public life in Egypt and was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the European Union. The training of the trainer’s program was conducted under this initiative.

It further worked to enhance the efficiency of human resources and develop capabilities in integrating women’s needs into equal opportunity planning and women’s empowerment.

The Institute is committed to collaborating with international bodies and institutes that rely on advanced training and education methodologies. The role played by WFP in fostering supportive thinking and practical practices for integrating gender perspectives into the planning process within the Institute was highlighted during the event.

During the event, Dr. Dalia Ibrahim delivered a speech on behalf of the Institute of National Planning.

Ibrahim noted that the Institute has been at the forefront of applying institutional analysis to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, making it the first government entity to do so. He emphasized the importance of the trainees’ role as ambassadors and change leaders within the Institute and expressed his deep appreciation to all the participants in the program.

On her part, Dr. Nagla Al-Adly delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Maya Morsy, the President of the Council, where she mentioned the ILO participatory methodology that applies institutional analysis to support gender equality and women’s empowerment. This methodology is being implemented for the first time in Egypt’s government institutions through the National Planning Institute, which is leading the way in the application of this system and setting a unique model for planning in this context. The program participants have successfully conveyed a positive image of the applicability and acceptance of gender mainstreaming in plans and programs.

In order to ensure that women’s needs are incorporated into Egyptian plans and policies, it is important to integrate international practices and experiences. National efforts should also focus on developing policies and programs that support the integration of women’s needs into various governmental institutions, as well as meeting the national scientific and practical needs in this regard.
