In a bid to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, Egypt sends a delegation to Israel

Egypt sent a high-level delegation to Israel to hold talks aimed at achieving a cease-fire agreement with Hamas and preventing an Israeli assault on the town of Rafah, which is situated on the border with Egypt.

The Egyptian officials warned that an attack on Rafah could destabilize the region, hence the need for urgent discussions.

Egypt’s top intelligence official, Abbas Kamel, led the delegation, which planned to discuss a “new vision” for a prolonged cease-fire in Gaza. According to an Egyptian official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the talks focused on two main issues: exchanging hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners and allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza with minimal restrictions.

As the war between Hamas and Israel continues and casualties increase, there is mounting international pressure for both parties to reach a cease-fire agreement. In this regard, Friday’s talks were seen as a positive step towards achieving regional peace.
