Head of the Health Care and Nursing Sector, Dr. Souad Abdel Majeed, recently revealed the health units’ strategy to confront violence against women within over 5,000 health units nationwide.

Abdel Majeed asserted that the Ministry pays great attention to the medical and psychological needs of women and girls who are exposed to violence, explaining that primary care facilities “health units” are the first healthcare facility that women who are exposed to violence turn to when seeking help.

She continued: The health care and nursing sector works to raise community awareness, to combat gender-based violence, to reach women who are prone to violence, and to offer them health and psychological support services and their children as well.

According to Dr. Souad, the Health Ministry starts with psychological first aid for violence in its various forms, as it’s a priority, in addition to spreading health awareness and social advice for women, introducing them to ways to protect themselves from exposure to violence, facilitating access to supportive services in other sectors that women who are exposed to violence need and want to obtain, and contributing to preventing the recurrence of violence by identifying women who suffer from violence and their children at an early stage, providing care and referral services to the competent authority according to their needs.
