Judge Duaa Al-Haddad Receives Ph.D. on Criminal Protection of Women

Judge Duaa Hussein Al-Haddad has just obtained a Ph.D. in Criminal Law with a “Very Good” grade, granted unanimously by the Judgment Committee for a thesis entitled “Criminal Protection for Women”.

The topic of the thesis is the criminal protection of women. The spread of crimes affecting women recently and at the global level necessitated drawing attention to them and called for the attention of criminal legislators to impose deterrent criminal penalties on those who commit criminal acts of violence against women.

Her research impressed Counselor Dr. On the topic, Dr. Amal Othman, an acclaimed professor at the Faculty of Law, who expressed her happiness with the content of the thesis, as the researcher touched on all legislative amendments and the provisions of Islamic law related to violence against women and the need to protect them.

Dr. Duaa Al-Haddad indicated that the subject of her study may be an old topic in terms of the idea but is considered modern due to the successive amendments and legislation that have taken place in it in line with the digital age.

Coinciding with the recording of the topic of the research, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, decided that 2017 would be the year of Egyptian women as a culmination of her efforts and encouragement to increase her involvement in the development of society, stressing the need to protect her from exposure to any form of violence and that she has the right to live safely in Street, home, and community.

Moreover, the United Nations Sustainable Development Strategy for 2030 also focuses on Goal No. 11 of addressing discrimination, ensuring the safety of women and girls, and protecting them from exposure to any violence.

Al-Haddad further said the criminal protection of women is not limited to the internal efforts of the state but extends to a wider scope according to the efforts it makes to join international conventions concerned with the protection of women or adapting its internal legislation to achieve protection to confront these crimes, and on the other hand, extending More procedural protection for women, in addition to global efforts in this regard.

The Committee for Discussion and Judging the thesis praised the distinction of the researcher and the subject of her thesis as a prominent reference for scientific research, as it aims to contribute to the achievement of protection for women and its discussion of many matters, including the comparative study with the legal system in France and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
