In a significant step to deepen local-level cooperation between Egypt and the European Union, Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, welcomed EU Ambassador to Egypt, Angelina Eichhorst, at the governorate headquarters on Monday, marking the start of the ambassador’s official visit to the region.

The visit aims to strengthen joint collaboration across key development areas including sustainable agriculture, rural women empowerment, and environmental initiatives.

Governor Azar extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Eichhorst and the accompanying delegation, expressing appreciation for the long-standing and strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union. She emphasized that EU cooperation plays a vital role in supporting Egypt’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the fields of modern agriculture, green transition, and inclusive economic growth.

“Beheira is one of Egypt’s largest agricultural and industrial governorates,” Azar said. “International cooperation with our EU partners provides essential support for local development and sustainability in agriculture and natural resource management.”

The governor highlighted that Beheira is aligning its local development agenda with Egypt’s national vision under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi — focusing on rural livelihoods, women’s empowerment, and the expansion of smart and green farming technologies.

Ambassador Eichhorst expressed her appreciation for the reception and voiced admiration for the development projects implemented in the region, especially those targeting rural communities. She affirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting local initiatives that improve public services, create employment opportunities, and uplift village economies.

During the meeting, both sides discussed future collaboration opportunities, particularly in areas such as green investment, smart irrigation, and environmental sustainability projects supported by the EU’s ongoing initiatives in Egypt.

The discussions also reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to back projects that contribute to sustainable development and enhance the quality of life for Egyptian citizens across rural and underserved areas.
