Alexandria Women’s Clubs Showcase Handmade Products at Stanley Beach

Amira El Gamal

Women and girls from Alexandria showcased their handmade and locally produced goods at an exhibition held at Stanley Beach as part of the “Alexandria Celebrates” initiative, organized by the Alexandria Directorate of Youth and Sports.

The exhibition attracted beachgoers and visitors and provided women and girls with an opportunity to display products developed through the activities of the Girls and Women’s Clubs.

Women Turn Skills Into Marketable Products

The exhibition featured a diverse selection of products, including handicrafts, crochet, accessories, home textiles, clothing, traditional products, homemade food and baked goods, environmental crafts, gifts and decorative items.

The range of products highlighted the skills of participating women and girls while demonstrating their ability to transform creative talents into goods with commercial potential.

The event also offered participants direct exposure to potential customers, creating an opportunity to introduce their products to a wider audience and explore new markets.

Alexandria Initiative Links Entertainment With Women’s Empowerment

Dr. Safaa El-Sherif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Alexandria, said exhibitions organized by the Girls and Women’s Clubs represent a practical approach to supporting and empowering women.

She explained that the objective goes beyond training women and developing their skills. It also includes creating genuine opportunities for them to market their products and connect directly with consumers.

According to El-Sherif, the “Alexandria Celebrates” initiative combines entertainment with community development by creating enjoyable experiences for residents and beach visitors while simultaneously giving women space to present their work and strengthen their economic participation.

Supporting Women Entrepreneurs and Local Products

El-Sherif noted that exhibitions organized through the Girls and Women’s Clubs are held regularly to allow more women and girls to showcase their products and reach new audiences.

Such initiatives can contribute to encouraging consumers to support locally made products while giving women greater opportunities to develop small-scale businesses and generate income from their skills.

The exhibitions also reinforce the role of youth centers as community-based spaces that extend beyond sports and recreation to include training, economic participation and social development.

Women’s Economic Participation at the Community Level

By bringing women’s products directly into public spaces, initiatives such as this provide a practical link between skills development and economic opportunity.

For participating women and girls, showcasing their work can be an important step toward building customer networks, testing products in the market and developing creative skills into sustainable sources of income.

The Alexandria exhibition therefore reflects a broader approach to women’s empowerment: supporting women not only as beneficiaries of training programs, but also as producers, entrepreneurs and active contributors to local economic development.

The activities were held under the patronage of Alexandria Governor Engineer Ayman Attia and as part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ efforts to support women’s empowerment, encourage small businesses and strengthen the community role of youth centers.
