Egypt is the newest host for the pilot phase of the FIFA Series, featuring friendly matches between international teams from various regions. This year’s edition expands to include four additional teams: Croatia, Tunisia, and New Zealand. These teams will join the host nation, Egypt, in Cairo for matches from March 22nd to 26th, 2024.
The FIFA Series aims to increase international football interactions beyond traditional regional matches. This fosters global development in the sport. This pilot year will experiment with various formats. For instance, the “FIFA Series: Egypt” features a unique structure where winners from the first matches face off in their second games.
This expanded pilot edition boasts 24 participating Member Associations (MAs) across five locations on three continents. Importantly, all six FIFA confederations are represented. Joining Egypt as hosts are Algeria, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia (twice), and Sri Lanka.
These matches offer valuable technical development opportunities for the participating MAs. Teams from CAF, AFC, UEFA, OFC, Concacaf, and CONMEBOL will face off, creating a diverse and exciting competition.
