Minister of Emigration Soha Gendy discussed with the President of the Texas Medical Board, Sherif Zaafran, how to further integrate Egyptian doctors working abroad into the American state, to benefit the Egyptian medical system.

She expressed: We are keen to open horizons of cooperation between our scientists, experts, and various state institutions, especially in the health sector.

Gendy further highlighted the cooperation of those experts with the ministry and several civil society groups, affirming that the experience of Egyptian doctors abroad is beneficial to the country’s medical services.

In turn, Zaafran welcomed cooperation with the ministry, which he believes will better serve patients and exchange experiences.

He also praised Egypt’s efforts to develop its health institutions.

Pointing out that a large number of Egyptian doctors are members of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), Zaafran affirmed the importance of coordination between institutions regulating medical sectors.

He noted: As many as 14 medical faculties in different Egyptian universities have obtained the license required by the Texas Medical Board to operate in the state, adding: There is also room for cooperation and coordination with Egyptian authorities to allow the rest of the medical faculties in Egypt to obtain the board’s license.

Gendy pledged to submit Zaafran’s proposals to set a cooperation framework with the board to the ministers of health and higher education and a number of governors as well.

Around 9,000 medical students graduate annually from Egyptian universities nationwide, 65 percent of which work abroad, according to official figures.

Moreover, Egyptian doctors ranked among the top five “joiner doctors” who joined the UK medical workforce in 2021, according to a report released by the British General Medical Council (GMC).
