RFEF Appoints Montse Tome as 1st Female Coach for Spain’s National Women’s Team

by Nada Khaled

Following Jorge Vilda, Montse Tome was named the new head coach of Spain’s women’s national team by the country’s football organization (RFEF) last Tuesday. Right now, Tome has become the first woman to manage the side, thanks to RFEF’s new decision.

According to a statement by RFEF, since 2018, Tome has served as Vilda’s assistant coach and established herself as a key player in the national team’s growth.

The new board of the federation’s first action on Tuesday was to terminate Vilda’s contract.

Notably, a new board was established, following FIFA’s suspension of RFEF President Luis Rubiales for his non-consensual kiss of a Spanish player after the squad won the Women’s World Cup two weeks earlier.
