Egyptian Planning Minister Hala El Said asserted on Tuesday that the Egyptian government enforced several social protection programs to combat the global economic crises and the acceleration of commodity prices.

Said emphasized that the government increased the minimum wage rate at the level of the government, private sector, and pensions, as well as increasing social protection bundles.

Her remarks came during a panel session held under the theme of “Future Governments, Ambition, and vision in Dubai”.

She stated that the government launched “Decent Life”, the biggest worldwide developmental program that provides numerous services to Egyptian citizens in small Egyptian villages.

For the first time, the Egyptian state directs all its investments to more than 58% of the citizens in Egypt, she said.

On the global crises and their impact on the world, she said that it is important to work on short-term plans in addition to medium-term and long-term plans.

The minister further indicated that the government started rationalizing expenditure on the infrastructure and directed the investments to the sectors of health, education, and communication.

Said asserted that during the coronavirus crisis, the Egyptian government increased its investments by 400% in communication and information technology, in addition to investing in the human element.

Regarding Egypt’s vision 2063, she said it reflects the vision of Egyptians, including the private sector, intellectuals, civil society, and university professors; she added that it has dimensions on the economy, social protection, and maintaining resources.

Moreover, Said pointed out that Egypt is currently facing a population crisis as its population increases by 2.5 M citizens yearly, which presents a burden on the development operation.

The minister added that Egypt is working on improving the conditions of investing in the human element by providing good educational and health services to the people.

She concluded her speech by praising the Egyptian state for handling the issue of water scarcity by putting short-term and medium-term plans and investing in projects to maintain and rationalize water.
