Egypt’s President, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, attended the opening of the second edition of the Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC’24) on Sunday, a significant event showcasing Egypt’s commitment to health advancements. The congress took place in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development Affairs and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, and other senior officials in attendance.
During the opening session, Minister Abdel-Ghaffar received a momentous certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring Egypt malaria-free. This achievement positions Egypt as the third country, following the UAE and Morocco, to receive this prestigious recognition.
The WHO highlighted that this certification reflects Egypt’s success in interrupting local malaria transmission for at least three years. It also underscores the country’s capacity to respond effectively to potential imported cases, ensuring robust measures are in place to prevent any resurgence of the disease.
“This certification is not just a milestone; it is a global recognition of our efforts in public health,” Abdel-Ghaffar stated during the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of sustained health initiatives to maintain this status.
The congress serves as a platform for discussions on critical health issues, aiming to enhance collaboration and develop strategies that promote human development and well-being in Egypt and beyond.
