Egypt Honors Top Eco-Friendly Universities for 2024–2025 Academic Year at Supreme Council of Universities Meeting

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, honored the winning universities in the 2024/2025 “Best Environmentally Friendly University” competition during the Supreme Council of Universities’ monthly meeting held at Suez Canal University.

The session, attended by Ismailia Governor Maj. Gen. Akram Galal, Suez Canal University President Dr. Nasser Mandour, Supreme Council Secretary-General Dr. Mostafa Refaat, and council members, highlighted the nation’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into higher education.

Celebrating Leadership in Sustainable Campus Development

Dr. Ashour extended his appreciation to Suez Canal University’s faculty and leadership for hosting the council meeting, praising the institution’s commitment to advancing environmental initiatives. He also congratulated the winning universities and presented shields of honor to their presidents in recognition of their leadership in creating greener, more sustainable campuses.

Comprehensive Evaluation Across All University Sectors

Ministry spokesperson and media adviser Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar stated that the competition evaluated universities across public, private, national, and technological categories. The results for the 2024/2025 academic year were as follows:

Public Universities (Established over 50 Years)

  1. Mansoura University – First Place
  2. Alexandria University – Second Place
  3. Cairo University – Third Place

Public Universities (20–50 Years Old)

  1. Helwan University – First Place
  2. Minya University – Second Place
  3. Menoufia University – Third Place

Public Universities (Under 20 Years Old)

  1. Kafr El-Sheikh University – First Place
  2. Beni Suef University – Second Place
  3. Fayoum University – Third Place

Private and National Universities

  1. October 6 University – First Place
  2. Badr University – Second Place
  3. New Mansoura University – Third Place

Technological Universities

  1. New Cairo Technological University – First Place
  2. Taibah Technological University – Second Place
  3. Delta Technological University – Third Place

Recognition of the Judging Committee

Dr. Ashour also honored the competition’s evaluation panel, chaired by Cairo University President Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadiq. Committee members were recognized for their scientific rigor and contribution to promoting sustainability standards across Egypt’s higher education system.

Driving Climate Resilience  in Higher Education

The “Best Environmentally Friendly University” competition is part of Egypt’s broader commitment to fostering sustainable development, reducing environmental impact, and encouraging universities to adopt innovative green practices in waste management, clean energy, green spaces, digital transformation, and student environmental engagement.
