The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) announced the participation of a group of young Egyptian entrepreneurs in the 26th International Traditional Industries Salon in Algiers—one of the region’s most prominent exhibitions dedicated to heritage industries and crafts.
Egypt’s National Strategy for Heritage Projects
Bassil Rahmy, CEO of MSMEDA, reaffirmed the agency’s continued commitment to supporting entrepreneurs across all sectors, particularly heritage and handicraft projects. He highlighted that this participation reflects MSMEDA’s efforts to implement the National Strategy for Heritage Projects, launched by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who also chairs the agency’s Board of Directors.
Rahmy emphasized that MSMEDA is working to open new and diverse marketing channels for heritage project owners, helping them grow their businesses, improve product quality, and enhance their ability to export. “Our goal is to elevate these traditional industries, expand their reach, and promote Egyptian craftsmanship in major international markets,” he said.
Strong Egyptian Presence at Algeria’s Premier Cultural Event
The exhibition, held at Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture in Algiers, was inaugurated by Houria Medahi, Algeria’s Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries. This year’s edition coincides with Algeria’s celebrations of National Craftsman Day.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Algeria, Abdel Latif El-Lahe, visited the MSMEDA booths, expressing his appreciation for the high-quality products showcased by Egyptian participants and stressing the importance of their presence in introducing Algerian audiences to Egypt’s rich artistic heritage and craftsmanship.
Arab Cooperation in Heritage Industries
Rahmy noted that Egypt’s participation in the Algiers salon comes as part of ongoing strategic cooperation with Arab countries, especially Algeria—considered a promising and expanding market for Egyptian exports.
He pointed to Algeria’s prominent participation in the 7th edition of Egypt’s “Turathna” Exhibition in Cairo last October, as well as in previous years. This continued exchange, Rahmy affirmed, demonstrates the shared commitment between both countries to growing the heritage and handicraft sectors.
Boosting Exports and Supporting Craft Entrepreneurs
Rahmy added that joint participation in regional exhibitions aims to help small business owners refine their products to meet international market standards, better understand global consumer needs, and secure export and contracting opportunities.
He stressed that exhibitions such as the International Traditional Industries Salon play a crucial role in:
- Promoting diverse Egyptian heritage products that enjoy strong global demand
- Expanding export potential and increasing trade exchange between Egypt and Algeria
- Facilitating the exchange of technical and marketing expertise among entrepreneurs
