Egypt is witnessing an exciting evolution in its automotive landscape with the introduction of electric and smart vehicle, and more sustainable mobility options, marking a new chapter for Egypt’s automotive industry.

The Arrival of Smart EVs

The “Arab Group for Automobiles” (AG) has unveiled the luxury electric vehicle brand Smart, which is set to debut in the Egyptian market in January 2025. This marks a significant milestone as Smart enters the Egyptian market for the first time, offering two innovative electric models: Smart #1 and Smart #3. Both vehicles fall under the crossover SUV category, combining cutting-edge technology, premium features, and eco-friendly performance.

Starting prices for Smart #1 in Egypt begin at 1,890,000 EGP for the entry-level Pure+ version, with the Pro+, Premium, and Brabus variants priced higher, up to 2,440,000 EGP for the Brabus edition. Meanwhile, Smart #3 is offered at 2,290,000 EGP for the Pro+ model, rising to 2,690,000 EGP for the Brabus variant. With the addition of these two models, the number of electric vehicles officially available in Egypt has reached 20, signaling the growing trend toward sustainable mobility in the country.

Global Shift Toward Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles are not just making a splash in Egypt, but they are also outperforming gasoline-powered vehicles in global markets, particularly in the largest EV market, China. This shift reflects growing awareness of the environmental benefits of EVs, coupled with advancements in battery technology and charging infrastructure that make electric cars more accessible and practical than ever.

New Models Set to Enter Egypt’s EV Market in 2025

As the demand for EVs continues to rise, several new models are expected to make their debut in Egypt in the near future. Among the most highly anticipated is the 2025 Mazda6e, a fully electric version of Mazda’s popular sedan, which promises to combine performance, luxury, and sustainability in one sleek package.

Other notable electric models expected to land in Egypt soon include the Porsche Taycan and Jaguar I-Pace, both of which have already garnered attention for their impressive performance specifications. The Taycan offers a rear motor with 408 horsepower and a top speed of 230 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. The I-Pace, on the other hand, comes with two motors producing 395 horsepower, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

A Diverse Range of Electric Vehicles

The range of electric cars now available in Egypt spans various segments, from sporty models to family-oriented SUVs. For example, Hyundai Ioniq 6 has entered the market, priced starting from 2,850,000 EGP, while the Audi RS e-tron GT offers an exhilarating driving experience with its 598-horsepower dual-motor setup. MG4 and Geely Geometry C are also available, catering to those seeking more affordable options, starting at 1,350,000 EGP and 1,700,000 EGP, respectively.

Moreover, brands like Volvo and BMW are expanding their electric offerings in Egypt, with models like the Volvo EX30 and BMW iX taking center stage. The BMW iX offers an impressive 523 horsepower in its xDrive50 variant and a range of up to 631 km on a single charge, while the BMW i4 delivers 340 horsepower and a range of up to 590 km, catering to those seeking performance alongside sustainability.

The Road Ahead for Electric Vehicles in Egypt

As Egypt embraces the electric revolution, the expansion of EV infrastructure, including charging stations, is vital to ensuring the success of these vehicles. The government’s incentives, such as tax breaks and subsidies, combined with the growing availability of electric models, will likely accelerate the transition from traditional gasoline-powered cars to electric vehicles.
