Yesterday, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo gifted over 400 books to the Misr Public Library. This initiative underscores the United States’ commitment to enhancing access to education, not only by supporting Egyptian libraries but also by providing professional development opportunities to librarians. The collection of books donated today focuses on diverse subjects aimed at fostering a broad understanding of American culture and history. U.S. Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg attended the book donation ceremony stating: “This book donation is just one way we are demonstrating the United States’ commitment to supporting educational opportunities that will benefit young people throughout Egypt. The U.S.-Egyptian partnership means more opportunities for our two cultures to share knowledge that will benefit both of our people for generations to come.”

As part of the U.S. Embassy’s support to Egyptian libraries, five library administrators from the Misr Public Library system will participate in the U.S.-sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program later this year. This program will allow the Egyptian administrators to visit American libraries, explore how these institutions benefit their communities, and share ideas that will benefit both American and Egyptian libraries. The U.S. Embassy’s American Center in Cairo is dedicated to fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the United States and Egypt through education, cultural programming, and community engagement.
