News Agencies

Manal Awad Mikhail has been appointed as the new Minister of Local Development, replacing Hisham Amna. Amna has served as the Minister of Local Development since 14 August 2022. Aged 57, Mikhail has made history once again as the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Local Development.

In 2018, an important milestone was achieved when she became the first female Coptic Christian to be appointed as the Governor of Damietta, making history in the process. Prior to this, Mikhail had served as Deputy Governor of Giza for Community Service and Environmental Development, a role she held since 2015.

She previously held the position of Deputy Director at the Veterinary Serum and Vaccine Research Institute (VSVRI) under the Ministry of Agriculture. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Sciences from Benha University in 1989.

In 1995, she completed her master’s degree in Medical Sciences at Alexandria University, followed by her PhD in the same field in 1999. Her academic achievements were further acknowledged with the State Incentive Award in Scientific Studies in 2007, and in 2017, she was honored with the UNESCO Learning Cities Award.

We here at the Top 50 Women Forum extend our best wishes to Manal Awad for a successful start in her new role.
