Under the auspices of the Egyptian Embassy in France, and in honor of Egyptian women on International Women’s Day, renowned soprano Amira Selim will perform in a concert titled “Music for Peace” on March 8th at the Institut du Monde Arabe.
The talented instrumentalists known as the Ayoub Sisters will also perform on the Paris stage, accompanied by conductor Mohamed Saad Basha.This concert is viewed as a musical call to peace in order to shape a better future.The renowned soprano expressed her delight at being a part of such an incredible musical evening. She also performed at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization on June 21, 2023.
Selim recently released her latest music video, Merut Ek (“Your Love”), an ancient Egyptian love song, to commemorate the new year and Egyptian Orthodox Christmas. Selim improvised “Merut Ek” on JS Bach’s Prelude.
English and Arabic subtitles were added to Merut EK’s music video to help people understand the lyrics. Mafdy Thabet mixed and edited the song, and Selim sang with harpist Mona Wassef.
Moreover, Yasmin El Shazly, an Egyptologist, reviewed the Chester Beatty Papyrus and used its lyrics to compose the song.
Selim first performed the song in December 2021 as part of the opening ceremony for Nefertiti Palace, Egypt’s virtual city of Metatut. She shared her song with her fans through social media platforms saying “This is my gift to you for the holidays.”
Notably, Selim rose to prominence after delivering an outstanding orchestral performance during Egypt’s Pharaohs’ Golden Parade, where she sang her hymn “A Reverence for Isis” in ancient Egyptian.
