Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Inaugurates 2nd Edition of Egypt Mining Forum (EMF 2023)

H.E. Tarek El Molla, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, inaugurated the Forum with a keynote speech on Revitalizing Egypt’s Mining and Minerals Sector, welcoming H.E. Bandar Alkhorayef, the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources in the KSA, and  Ahmed Samir, Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Yousef Ali Guedi, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in the Republic of Djibouti, and the CEOs of major global and local companies operating in the mining sector.

In his opening speech, El Molla highlighted that Egypt Mining Forum is a premier event on both international and regional agendas. “We already launched our journey for achieving the optimum exploitation of the mining wealth amid Egypt’s political stability and economic reform,” stated the Minister.

In this regard, he also referred to Egypt’s infrastructure and mineral wealth, which boosted Egypt’s attractiveness for international investments and building successful partnerships while attracting leading companies that witnessed Egypt’s efforts in building upon its mining potential and making the sector a significant contributor to its economy.

The Minister stated: Egypt has a rich history in the field of mining dating back to 1160 BC, proven in the oldest known map in the world that shows the way to gold mines and mining in the Eastern Desert.

He added that modern Egypt has the potential to become one of the best mining regions in the world and has already made significant progress in this regard, becoming a mining investment destination on the global investment map. Egypt has promoted qualified capabilities, infrastructure, and digital transformation to maximize the value of its mining resources. Recent successes in exploiting silicon, soda ash, and other minerals are examples of this commitment. “Egypt has adopted the concept of green mining, which is an extension and true realization of its commitments to the COP27 summit.”, added the Minister.

He also referred to the progress achieved by the regional geophysical survey program aims to identify and classify mining areas according to economic principles and then provide more efficient and reliable mining data that serves the state’s plans and policies in achieving optimal exploitation, which serves both the investment ecosystem, as well as Egypt’s keenness to deploy digitization in all stages of mining, production, and manufacturing of mining resources.”

El Molla also referred to the various bid rounds that Egypt’s mining sector announced for exploiting minerals, phosphate, sulfur, and potassium, launched during the current quarter of this year.
