Austrian-Egyptian actress Amira El-Sayed recently joined the cast of HBO’s Spy/Master and will star in five of the first six episodes of the new Cold War era series.
As a child, El-Sayed grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, before moving to Vienna. She starred in various international productions, including A Hologram for the King, alongside Tom Hanks. The Alexandrian-born actress is set to appear in episodes 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in Spy/Master.
Loosely based on a true story set in the 1970s during the Cold War era in Romania and West Germany, the plot follows Victor Godeanu, Ceausescu’s right-hand man that is secretly a KGB agent and must flee before someone reveals his secret. In his risky attempt to escape, he seizes a valuable diplomatic opportunity.
Spy/Master is produced by HBO Romania, created by Adina Sădeanu and Kirsten Peter, and directed by Christopher Smith. The first two episodes of Spy/Master have already premiered and earned a 2023 Berlinale Series Award nomination.
The show will begin airing on HBO Max on the 19th of May and is scheduled to release its first six episodes on the US streaming platform.
