The National Council for Women has released a report stating that they have developed a program to investigate the issues that rural women encounter and suggest solutions to overcome those problems.

This program is called the Women’s Economic Empowerment Project, which aims to support the national Egyptian cotton industry.

The project focuses on rural women who work in the cultivation of cotton from agriculture to harvest, in order to revive the agricultural renaissance of long-staple cotton and provide assistance to these women who work in this sector.

Al Akhbar news website mentioned that the project was to train rural women in cotton farming and clothing production for export.

In collaboration with Bloom Bank Egypt, the Rural Women’s Committee of the Council has launched a project to recycle agricultural waste and extract essential oils from it. This project will be implemented in Al-Rabowh village, Minyah governorate, in cooperation with NGOs.

According to a report by the World Bank, the agricultural industry in Egypt provides employment to 19% of the total workforce.

Interestingly, the report also states that women constitute 45% of the workforce in this sector. These women work in various capacities like manually fighting pests, removing harmful weeds, and harvesting crops.
