Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, met with the South Korean Ambassador, Kim Young-hyun, to discuss bilateral environmental cooperation.

Fouad appreciated Korean cooperation in establishing waste recycling plants and expressed the aspiration for continued collaboration. She referred to the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) support in implementing a training program for environmental planning.

Fouad praised South Korea’s support for the Green Suez Canal project to enhance green transformation. South Korea’s contribution to the Green Climate Fund is at a value of $300m, allocated for climate change adaptation and mitigation. The meeting addressed bilateral cooperation with the private sector in environmental and climate investment.

Fouad spoke about future cooperation in integrated waste management and implementing Egypt’s climate plan. Amb. Kim expressed aspiration for fruitful cooperation in the environment and continued collaboration in waste recycling. Cooperation resulted in solid waste recycling plants in three Egyptian governorates and a waste-to-energy project in Cairo. Further, c apacity building, technology transfer, and support for the Green Suez Canal project were also discussed.
