Almouneer, an Egyptian firm run by women, raises $3.6 million to cure diabetes and obesity

Almouneer, an Egyptian healthtech startup, has raised $3.6 million in seed funding. The round was led by Dubai-based Global Ventures, with participation from other international investors, including Proparco, Digital Africa via the Bridge Fund, Wrightwood Investments, and others.

The healthtech startup plans to use the funding to support the development and expansion of its platform for treating diabetes and obesity. It will include the launch of patient-customized treatment and nutrition plans, a marketplace for essential consumables, and an app for doctors.

With Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, and Kenya as top priorities for the healthcare company in 2024, Almouneer is looking into potential product expansion into these countries.

Founded by Noha Khater and Rania Kadry in 2016 in Giza, Egypt, Almouneer aims to transform healthcare for people with chronic diseases, including obesity and diabetes. It’s no news that chronic diseases are the leading cause of death globally and are emerging global health threats.

Initially established as a group of technology-driven clinics primarily specialising in ophthalmology, Almouneer transitioned to provide operational support to outside doctors and healthcare providers. It uses extensive practice management software, which includes integrated financial systems, electronic health records, and booking systems.

Almouneer offers DRU, a patient-centric, digitally-enabled lifestyle and diabetes management platform. It allows patients to upload their medical records, access their latest medical data and current medications, connect with doctors and healthcare personnel via chat or phone, and subscribe to personalised treatment and nutrition plans.Ezoic

DRU has the potential to be a valuable tool for patients with chronic diseases, as it provides them with a convenient way to manage their health and stay connected with their healthcare providers. Patients can choose from individualised plans for obesity and uncontrolled diabetes that focus on lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
