Egypt’s Ready-Made Garment Exports Surge 25% in April, Showing Robust Recovery

Egypt’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry posted a robust 25% growth in exports for April 2025, marking a clear signal of continued recovery and resilience in the sector. Exports rose to $223 million, up from $179 million during the same month last year, according to the Apparel Export Council of Egypt.

The cumulative export value for the first four months of 2025 reached $1.028 billion, representing a 22% increase over the same period in 2024. The rise is being attributed to a combination of improving global demand, strategic market expansion, and enhanced competitiveness of Egyptian products.

Key Markets and Growth Figures

The United States maintained its position as Egypt’s largest export destination, importing $384 million worth of garments — an 11% increase compared to $345 million in the same period of 2024.

European countries emerged as a significant growth engine, with exports climbing 39% to $259 million, up from $186 million. Meanwhile, exports to Arab countries rose by 6%, totaling $190 million.

Most notably, exports to Sub-Saharan African nations surged by an exceptional 101%, reflecting intensified outreach to previously under-tapped markets. Exports to the rest of the world also registered an impressive 50% growth, reaching $190 million, compared to $127 million in the same timeframe last year.

Leadership Perspective and Future Outlook

Fadel Marzouk, Chairman of the Readymade Garments Export Council, emphasized the significance of these gains as a sign of gradual recovery and positive performance across the industry.

“These numbers reflect an improving global appetite for Egyptian apparel and the success of our export strategies,” said Marzouk. “Efforts to open new markets and enhance product competitiveness are paying off.”

He further added that the Council aims to sustain annual export growth between 30% and 35%, leveraging a combination of targeted training programs, support for SME exporters, international promotion campaigns, and the resolution of export-related obstacles.

The Egyptian garment industry, long a cornerstone of the country’s non-oil exports, is increasingly being seen as a driver of employment and economic stability, especially in the face of local demand stagnation in other sectors such as steel and raw materials.
