Egypt’s Luxor Labor Directorate has intensified its efforts to support women protect children and provide social protection for informal workers through a wide range of programs covering workplace safety financial assistance vocational training awareness and labor rights
According to Mahmoud Ahmed Eissa Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor in Luxor the directorate is committed to supporting all parties involved in the labor process and maintaining balance in the local labor market through field inspections digital services continuous awareness campaigns social protection programs entrepreneurship support and assistance for self employed and informal workers
These efforts also include strengthened monitoring to ensure safe and sustainable workplaces for women and children in line with Egypt’s broader sustainable development goals
Financial and Social Support for Informal Workers
As part of its social protection efforts the Luxor Labor Directorate provided financial and social assistance to informal workers particularly those facing greater economic challenges
The assistance included a total of EGP 24000 in marriage grants for eight workers EGP 16000 in first child grants for eight workers and EGP 14000 in second child grants for seven workers
The directorate also provided EGP 8000 in death benefits for four cases involving first degree relatives in addition to Eid Al Adha and exceptional grants worth EGP 3000 for each eligible worker
These measures are intended to ease financial pressures on informal workers while strengthening social protection for workers who operate outside traditional employment structures
Workplace Safety Inspections Cover Nearly 5000 Workers
The directorate also intensified its occupational safety and health activities to protect workers and reduce workplace risks
Field inspections were conducted at 97 establishments employing 4966 workers The inspections resulted in 14 official reports being issued
In addition field measurements were carried out at 24 establishments while eight meetings of occupational safety and health committees were attended
Licensing committees also held six meetings to examine 11 cases resulting in the issuance of four licenses
The directorate further conducted 19 specialized inspection campaigns and nine regular campaigns alongside four awareness seminars attended by 45 workers Two additional initiatives were organized with a combined attendance of 650 workers
Vocational Training to Improve Workers Skills
Vocational training and professional skills development also remain an important part of the directorate’s work particularly in preparing workers to enter the formal labor market legally and effectively
The Luxor Labor Directorate issued 476 skill level assessment certificates and 476 professional practice cards for technical workers
The program is designed to help workers document their professional skills and improve their ability to access formal employment opportunities
Protecting Women’s Rights in the Workplace
The Women and Child Affairs Unit at the Luxor Labor Directorate has also increased its awareness and monitoring activities to protect women’s rights and promote safe and stable working environments
As part of these efforts the directorate organized an awareness seminar in the Esna labor area attended by 17 beneficiaries
The activities focus on raising awareness of women’s rights and workplace protections while supporting efforts to create safer working conditions for women
Combating Child Labor in Luxor
Child protection is another key area of the directorate’s activities
As part of its efforts to combat child labor inspectors visited 10 establishments where six children were found working
The directorate also organized an awareness seminar for stakeholders concerned with child protection under the title Awareness of Child Labor Between Current Conditions and Sustainable Development The seminar was attended by 19 beneficiaries
The initiative highlights the importance of addressing child labor while linking child protection efforts to sustainable development and responsible labor practices
Supporting a Safer and More Inclusive Labor Market
The activities carried out by the Luxor Labor Directorate reflect a broader approach to labor protection that combines social assistance workplace monitoring vocational training and awareness
By supporting informal workers strengthening occupational safety measures protecting women and monitoring child labor the directorate seeks to promote a safer and more inclusive labor market in Luxor
The focus on women and children is particularly significant as improving workplace safety awareness and protection can contribute to stronger participation in the workforce while helping ensure that vulnerable groups receive appropriate support
