Poland’s Hynfra Plans $1.6 Bn Green Hydrogen Plant in Egypt

News Agencies

Poland’s Hynfra is set to establish one of five green ammonia plants in Egypt, targeting both Middle Eastern and European markets. The plant will initially have a capacity of 100,000 tons per year in its first phase, with plans to expand production to one million tons by 2030.

Powered primarily by renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, the plant will also supply surplus production to Egypt’s local market. The facility will feature essential infrastructure such as storage, water treatment, and electrolysis units.

The estimated initial investment for the project is $1.6 billion, with potential future investments of up to $10.6 billion if the plant reaches its expanded capacity. The details were disclosed during a meeting between Hynfra CEO Tomoho Umeda and Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). Heiba noted that the European Union plans to import six million tons of green hydrogen and four million tons of green ammonia by 2030, further emphasizing the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
