The National Council for Persons with Disabilities, in the presence of Dr. Iman Karim, launched the activities of the educational training program on positive political participation for girls and women with disabilities as part of the Council’s initiative “Your Voice, Your Right” to urge people with disabilities and their families to participate positively in the 2024 presidential elections.
The inauguration training program took place in Luxor, in the presence of many women and girls with disabilities and the civil society organizations dealing with them. During the training program, they talked about the right to political participation within the framework of the International Convention, the Egyptian Constitution, and Law No. (10) of 2018 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, the importance of positive political participation for girls and women with disabilities, the role of the Council in this regard, the facilitative measures provided to facilitate the voting of persons with disabilities, and the mechanisms for activating effective participation in the electoral process.
During the meeting, attendees participated in an open dialogue with the general supervisor of the Council about the reality and challenges of girls and women with disabilities to participate in political life and coping mechanisms.
For her part, Dr. Iman Karim, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, expressed her happiness at launching the training program and campaign from Upper Egypt, specifically from the Luxor Governorate.
She further indicated that the Council’s actions in this regard stem from the Council’s goal and role in protecting, promoting, and developing the rights of persons with disabilities, working to consolidate their value, spreading awareness of them, and contributing to ensuring their practice, in light of the international agreements, covenants, and charters that Egypt has ratified.
The General Supervisor of the Council announced that the Council’s initiative “Your Voice, Your Right” comes in implementation of the Egyptian state’s approach to the legal and empowering perspective to integrate persons with disabilities, leading to achieving the integrated development vision of the “Egypt 2030” strategy, especially girls and women with disabilities, and strengthening the principles of justice, equality, and equal opportunities in the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law No. (10) of 2018 in its Article No. (39).
