Women in Nuclear Energy Organization Conference Kicks Off 30th Edition in Aswan

The activities of the annual conference of the Women in the Field of Nuclear Energy kicked off yesterday in its 30th session, held for the first time in Egypt from November 13 to 16 in Aswan, under the patronage of the Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and in the presence of Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan.

Attia witnessed the launching of the second meeting of the African Agency “AFRA” committees, representing the International Atomic Energy Agency, in cooperation with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, at the invitation of Dr. Amr Al-Hajj Ali, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Authority, with the participation of Shawkat Abdel Razek, Deputy Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Dr. Dina Al-Husseini, Chairman of the Africa Projects Management Committee.

In his speech, the Governor of Aswan expressed his gratitude for choosing Aswan as a place to hold the meetings of the AFP committees in support of the peaceful uses of atomic energy through the projects that are prepared through the meetings of those committees.

He added that the charming city of Aswan, as it was a center for the convergence of cultures and civilizations throughout the ages, is where the biggest development projects are launched on its land, and the capital of new and renewable energy is currently witnessing the implementation of the largest solar energy projects in the world in Benban, in addition to many development and service projects that are currently taking place inside Aswan. To always be a source of growth and prosperity for Egypt throughout the ages, with its many components, resources, and wealth

The governor further pointed out that Aswan now represents the cornerstone in the field of new and renewable energy, which highlights the achievements of the modern Egyptian state in the new republic under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to work to achieve the goals of the sustainable development strategy.

For his part, Dr. Amr Al-Hajj Ali, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Authority and National Coordinator in Africa expressed his welcome to Egypt’s guests, who are high-level officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency, especially the Head of the Africa Sector of the Technical Cooperation Department of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Professor Shawkat Abdel Razek, Director of the Technical Cooperation Division for Africa, along with the head of the Technical Cooperation Department in Africa, and representatives of the agency’s secretariat.

He also indicated that the presence of senior officials from the Agency at this meeting reflects the interest and priority that the International Atomic Energy Agency attaches to regional cooperation on the African continent to support the advancement of nuclear science and technology and applications for the peaceful uses of atomic energy throughout the African continent.
