Dr. Maya Morsi, Head of the National Council for Women, said that the Family Affairs Prosecution monitors the person in charge of guardianship, which must be transferred to the mother immediately after the death of the father.
During a phone call to the “kelma Akheera” program, broadcast on ON channel and presented by Lamees Al-Hadidi, Morsi stressed that guardianship must be transferred to the mother within 48 hours of the father’s death, just like the transfer of the marital home upon divorce.
She indicated that the best interest of the child requires that the guardianship be for the mother, and not for the grandfather.
Morsi continued, saying that women run institutions, banks, and companies, so it doesn’t make sense to deny them guardianship for their kids out of fear of losing the children’s rights.
She further emphasized that authorities need to move fast in enforcing the decisions issued by the Public Prosecution and that it is possible that we do not wait for the issuance of the Family Law,” praising the role of the Egyptian drama, which played a huge role in highlighting such an important issue.
