President Al Sisi Receives AfDB Chairman

President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi said on Tuesday that Egypt is looking forward to increasing cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB), during his meeting with the bank’s chairman, Akinwumi Adesina, and the accompanied delegation in Cairo.

Al-Sisi received Adesina ahead of hosting the annual meetings of the AfDB in Sharm El-Sheikh next May.

El-Sisi welcomed the cooperation between Egypt and the AfDB, expressing his appreciation for the bank’s role in supporting development sectors on the African continent, especially in light of the growing economic challenges at the international level, presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy stated.

AfDB Chairman praised Egypt’s development projects during the past few years, especially in electricity, water treatment and reuse, and the development of unplanned residential areas.

Adesina noted that they focus on encouraging continental economic integration and mechanisms for bridging the climate financing gap on the African continent.

The 2023 annual meetings will be held at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Conference Centre during the period from May 22 to 26 May, hosting up to 4,000 attendees.

The meetings bring together finance ministers from the Bank Group’s 81 regional and non-regional member countries.
