The management of the Aswan International Film Festival for women decided to honor the great journalist, Presenter, and TV Personality, Dr. Doria Sharaf El-Din, in recognition of her role in supporting cinematic culture over many years through her famous program “Cinema Club”.

Her show served as a window for the Egyptian audience to follow international films. It shed light on their most prominent makers and the technical components of acting, directing, music, photography, and editing at a time when there was no opportunity to watch such films in Egyptian cinemas.

Ambassador Mervat Al-Talawi, Chairman of the Festival’s Board of Trustees, praised Dr. Doria Sharaf El-Din’s life work in developing and promoting the cinematic culture. She said that the presenter contributed to introducing all cinema lovers from different generations to countless significant experiences in international cinema and highlighted and analyzed its stars and makers.

Doing so led to the development of cinematic culture among the ordinary audience, who have been watching the “Cinema Club” program on Channel One of Egyptian TV for many years.

The chairman also indicated that Dr. Doria Sharaf El-Din is a role model for Egyptian women in the field of culture in general, as she added various influential titles to the Arab Library, including “Time Papers”, “Politics and Cinema in Egypt”, “Navigating the Mind and Heart of Pope Shenouda”, and “Recovering a Homeland”.

Moreover, Doria played a major role in cultural and media work, where she held important positions, such as her presidency of the Censorship Authority for Artistic Works at the Ministry of Culture and her presidency of the satellite channels sector on Egyptian television. After that, she assumed the position of Minister of Information from July 2013 to 17 June 2014.

Born in the city of Mansoura, Damietta Governorate, Dr. Doria Sharaf El-Din is now considered one of the symbols of Egyptian media. She studied at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University and obtained a Ph.D. from the Academy of Arts.

It is noteworthy that the Aswan International Film Festival for Women also honors Egyptian star, Nabila Ebeid as a recognition of her entire cinematic career. The festival will hold its seventh session from 5 to 10 March of 2023, under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture and Tourism.
