Women’s World No. 2 player Hania El Hammamy sadly withdrew from the El Gouna International Squash Open due to an injury, according to the PSA World Tour website.
The event starts tomorrow, and she was the No. 2 seed in the tournament. However, she will not be participating in the 2024 edition due to the injury she sustained during training.
Nouran Gohar, the defending champion and current World No. 3, will now replace El Hammamy as the No. 2 seed. After receiving a first-round bye, she will play against Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in an exciting and intense RD2 match.
Egyptian player Rowan Elaraby has moved up to the top eight seeding positions. After receiving an opening-round bye, she will play the winner of the all-Egyptian match between Mariam Metwally and wildcard Salma Elalfy.
Canada’s World No. 22 player, Hollie Naughton, originally scheduled to play in round one, will now be a 9/16 seed and receive a bye in the first round. She will face Nada Abbas in round two, who also has a bye.
England’s Katie Malliff has been upgraded to a 17/32 seed and will compete against Hong Kong’s Tsz-Wing Tong in round one. Malliff’sHer compatriot Alicia Mead has taken a spot in the draw. Mead will face Rachel Arnold on the tournament’s opening day.
