At the 9th Critics Awards for Arab Films, another Egyptian film that also lead the nominations was Voy! Voy! Voy! This satirical dramedy, directed by Omar Hilal, tells the story of Hassan, a security guard who pretends to be visually impaired to join a blind football team all the way from Egypt to the European World Cup. The film has grossed nominations for Best Actor for Mohamed Farrag and Best Editing for Ahmed Hafez.
Farrag’s performance as Hassan embodied depth and authenticity and managed to secure the Jury Award and Audience Award at the Split Mediterranean Film Festival. The “Best Egyptian Film of 2023,” as called by the Egyptian Film Critics Association was Egypt’s official submission for the Oscars.
The ensemble cast includes Bayoumi Fouad, Nelly Karim, Taha Desouki, Amgad El-Haggar, Hanan Youssef, Mohamed Abdel-Azim, Hagag Abdel-Azim, with a special appearance by Passant Shawky.
