At this year’s 15th edition of Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF), The Brink of Dreams, directed by Nada Riyadh and Ayman El-Amir, attained the Best Feature award. The film draws the story of an all-female Coptic group, who formed a small acting troupe in their village to perform plays inspired by Upper Egyptian folklore. The group’s dreams are to raise awareness about early marriage, domestic violence, girls’ education, and other important issues affecting women.
The film received huge success at MAFF, highlighting the increasing recognition of Egyptian cinema internationally. And in 2024, it won the Golden Eye Documentary Prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
