UN Women Executive Board Elects Its 2024 Bureau

The UN Women’s Executive Board began the year by electing its new Bureau for 2024 in elections held on January 10.

The Latin American and Caribbean group will preside over the Executive Board in 2024 and has nominated H.E. Ms. Markova Concepción Jaramillo, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations, as its representative.

Along with President Markova, the following Vice-Presidents were elected to represent the remaining regional groups: Ms. Joanna Sylwia Skoczek, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to the UN (representing the Eastern European Group); H.E. Mr. Andreas Von Uexküll, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Sweden to the UN (representing the Western European and Others Group); H.E. Jonibek Ismoil Hikmat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN (representing the Asia and the Pacific Group);

On her part, Ms. Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women thanked Ambassador Kyslytsya of Ukraine for taking over as President of the Executive Board in 2023, with support from the ambassadors of Colombia, Italy, and Thailand, as well as the First Counsellor of Cameroon as Vice Presidents. UN Women appreciates their unwavering dedication and service.

The Executive Board oversees UN Women’s operational activities. The Executive Board Bureau is made up of a President and four Vice-Presidents, one from each of the five regional groups. The Executive Board elects the Bureau from among its members each year, with the presidency rotating among the regional groups annually.
