UK’s 1st Coronation in 70 Years Attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly

King Charles III has been formally crowned as the 40th monarch and 14 other Commonwealth realms in the UK’s first coronation since 1953 at Westminster Abbey in central London.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly arrived in London on Friday, 5 May, to attend the coronation of King Charles III, on behalf of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Upon his arrival, Egypt’s Prime Minister attended King Charles’ reception at Buckingham Palace ahead of the coronation.

This once-in-a-generation royal event was witnessed by hundreds of high-profile guests inside Westminster Abbey and tens of thousands of well-wishers who gathered in central London despite the rain.

US President Joe Biden represented at the abbey by First Lady Jill Biden, tweeted his congratulations and paid tribute to the “enduring friendship” between the United States and Britain. Trumpet fanfares sounded along with gun salutes across Britain and beyond.

Britain’s King Charles III received The St Edward’s Crown during his coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey.  While Charles became King on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II last September, the coronation on Saturday was the formal crowning of the monarch.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby placed the solid-gold St Edward’s Crown on Charles’s head as a sacred and ancient symbol of the monarch’s authority. Later on, Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla return to Buckingham Palace after the coronation service at Westminster Abbey in London, Britain.

Returning to Buckingham Palace in the day’s second horse-drawn parade, the royal family appeared on the balcony to applause and more chants of approbation from tens of thousands of well-wishers braving a spring downpour.
