Tunisia’s Minister of Family, Women, Childhood, and the Elderly, Dr. Amal Belhaj Moussa, said that both Egypt and Tunisia have pioneering experiences in many fields concerning women, and each country has strengths in its experience to support women.
That is why she strongly feels the two countries should enhance cooperation and exchange experiences, especially in economic empowerment and combating violence against women.
Moreover, Dr. Moussa explained that the ministry’s raising of the slogan “Women’s economic empowerment is the solution” comes from the belief in the importance of women’s economic empowerment as a strategic choice, noting that women’s economic empowerment comes within a larger strategic project related to the advancement of the national economy through the participation of women and making them an essential partner in the economic development of the Tunisian state, whose human capital is considered the most important wealth in Tunisia.
She further revealed that the ministry is currently working on an ambitious national strategy to promote the participation of Tunisian girls and women in entrepreneurship, to be announced soon, through which the ministry seeks to raise the share of women entrepreneurs from 10% currently to more than 30% by 2035.
Regarding what distinguishes Women’s Day celebrations this year, she said that for the first time, the first round of the “Successful Women in My Country” demonstration was organized to celebrate successful women to intensify the idea of diligence, work, steadfastness, and success, and to circulate this festive event simultaneously throughout the Republic.
On Tunisian Women’s Day, The Minister shared in an exclusive interview with the delegate of the Middle East News Agency to Tunisia that she expects to hold bilateral meetings between those concerned with the women and family file in Egypt and Tunisia during the beginning of next year, noting the importance of benefiting and exchanging experiences between both states.
