Yesterday, the National Council for Women started the activities of the National Initiative for the Empowerment of Girls “Dawwie” under the directives of Egypt’s First Lady, Mrs. Entissar El-Sisi.

The initiative, which continues until October 19, aims to motivate girls to express their opinions, hopes, and fears, share stories and experiences, and build on them to empower them within their local communities.

Dawwie comes within the National Project for the Development of Egyptian Family, implemented in cooperation with UNICEF Egypt and the Equal Opportunity Units in the Ministry of Education in Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Qalyubia, Damietta, Sharqia, Qena, Assiut, Aswan, and Sohag.

Head of the Central Administration for Training and Development, Isis Mahmoud, confirmed that the activities include holding camps in schools at the middle stage in the previously mentioned governorates.

The camps will organize storytelling circles for girls, teach them a variety of simple handicrafts, clay drawing, and drawing a Dawwie mural on the walls of the school in which the camp will be implemented, in addition to holding talent shows and intergenerational viewing and dialogue club for female students and their families and opening community discussions among them.

Mahmoud further explained that the activities also include holding a training course for a group of facilitators in the National Girls Empowerment Program “Noura” in Assiut and Sohag governorates to integrate them into the Dawwie Girls Empowerment Program so that the group will be able to manage several storytelling circles, share a group of stories and experiences, and motivate girls to participate more often.
