Meta and Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports have partnered to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of young people. This collaboration demonstrates Meta’s commitment to creating a secure digital environment, particularly for the youth demographic.

Remarking on Safer Internet Day, Meta and the Ministry of Youth and Sports will engage in activities focused on youth safety, empowerment, and digital well-being. The collaboration will start with a roundtable on February 15, bringing together government officials, youth safety experts, academia representatives, civil society, and international organizations. The insights gained from this event will guide future efforts to support youth safety and well-being.

In addition to the roundtable, Meta will conduct capacity-building sessions, covering topics such as monetization, misinformation prevention, and the use of emerging technologies like the Metaverse and Artificial Intelligence. Meta, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will select participants for targeted training on online safety. An Olympics Workshop will offer training to the Egyptian National Olympics team on utilizing Meta’s platforms for promotion and safety.

As part of Meta’s comprehensive initiatives for youth safety and wellbeing, the company is introducing new features. These enhancements are specifically designed to protect teenagers and promote responsible social media usage. For instance, Meta will implement Nighttime Nudges on Instagram, gently reminding users, especially teenagers, to take breaks during nighttime hours. These reminders will be displayed after extended periods spent, fostering a healthier digital lifestyle and balanced relationship with social media.

Nighttime Nudges -distinct from Take a Break feature- is a broader notification applicable to users of all ages.

While these features are optional, Meta encourages teenagers to activate them, prioritizing their online safety and digital wellbeing. This comprehensive approach reflects Meta’s commitment to empower responsible and secure navigation of the online world.
