Women are crucial in shielding their children from the dangers of illegal migration. This was stressed by Ambassador Naila Gabr, Chairperson of the National Coordinating Committee for Combating Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Human Beings.

This was during a training on “Legal and Social Protection of Domestic Workers” organized by the Forum of NCW in collaboration with the National Coordinating Committee to Combat Illegal Migration and Human Trafficking.

Ambassador Naila Gabr referred to the Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings Act, reviewing the types and causes of illegal migration.

She commended the role of the National Council for Women in raising women’s and young people’s awareness of the dangers of dropping out of education, marrying minors and bargain marriages, as well as its role in combating illegal migration.

Ambassador Naila Gabr reviewed the types of trafficking in human beings, which included trafficking in human organs, underage work, exploitation of homeless children, prostitution and bargain marriages.

She stressed that any case of human trafficking in all its forms should be reported through the abbreviated line of the National Women’s Council, the Child Helpline or the National Human Rights Council hotline.

Isis Mahmoud, Head of the Central Directorate for Training and Development of the Council, commended the achievements of joint cooperation with the National Coordinating Committee and the Council, particularly with regard to human trafficking and illegal migration and ongoing efforts to raise community awareness of the dangers of illegal migration, as well as to publicize the various aspects of trafficking in human beings and its legal sanctions and to protect the victims of such crime.

She explained that this meeting reopens the file of protection of domestic workers and highlights the efforts of NGOs to provide legal and social support and enhance the positive view and appreciation of the nature of their work.

Mona Izzat, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Noon Foundation for Family Welfare and Administrator of the Forum, confirmed that considerable efforts have been made by NGOs to protect domestic workers from training, qualification and assistance to join available health and social insurance systems.

She noted the important role of NGOs in demanding a law protecting domestic workers and raising awareness of their rights in the social protection system, building their capacities and enabling them to organize trade unions, as well as a campaign to change the negative perception of domestic workers and highlight the importance and value of their role in society.
