by Nada Khaled

The Egypt Oil and Gas (EOG) Committee’s Women in Energy Network has made a brave move to support women in the industry by sponsoring the mentorship event “Taking the Lead on Your Career” on November 1st.

Alexandra Thomas, Managing Director Egypt at Neptune Energy; Kristian Svendsen, Country Manager at Chevron Egypt; and Anastasia Poole, Digital & Integration General Manager Egypt, Sudan, East Mediterranean; and Exploration Data Manager MENA at SLB opened the event.

Thomas began by saying: When we asked women in the industry how can we best support you in your careers, the overwhelming response was please help us with mentoring.

Meanwhile, Svendsen discussed Chevron’s Men Advocating Real Change (MARC) program. He stressed that MARC encourages men to take an active role in driving change and fostering an inclusive environment within the workplace.

Poole went on to say: This event was born as a result of the overwhelming demand from women in the energy community. We organized Egypt’s first-of-its-kind event, led by the Women in Energy Committee, with the backing of EOG and the assistance of many volunteers. The unique speed mentoring group model will allow you to explore a wide range of mentoring topics in a short amount of time, as well as varied mentoring approaches and long-lasting friendships with your peers.

He added: We hope that this is the first of many successful events to promote women in energy development and progress.

Thomas further spoke about “How to Get a Mentor and Get the Most Out of a Mentoring Relationship” during the event.

Furthermore, Amal El-Sheikh, Chairwoman and Managing Director of Shell Lubricants Egypt, offered her knowledge on “Working with Diverse Teams: How to Thrive with Different Cultures and Personality Types”.

Poole discussed “Creating Your Career vs. Just Letting It Happen” in her presentation.

Commercial General Manager at Shell Egypt, Dalia ElGabry, spoke on how to Find a Mentor and Make the Most of a Mentoring Relationship.

For her part, Eleanor Rowley, Managing Director of Capricorn Energy Egypt, held an engaging mentorship workshop on “Building vs. Leveraging Relationships”.

Heba Rezk, Senior Commercial Manager at EastMed Gas Marketing, Chevron; Heidi Mamdouh, Founder, Lead Consultant, and Executive Coach at Grit; Iman Wafy, CEO Assistant for Information Technology & Telecommunication at EGPC; and Isabel Geerdes, Egypt Exploration Manager at Chevron attended the event.

Rania Adel, Communications and events expert at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Omneya Abdellatif, Managing Counsel and head of Legal at Shell Egypt, were also mentors at the event.

Poole, Thomas, and Rowley offered concluding statements during the event, thanking both mentors and mentees for their time. Rowley also invited guests to approach members of the Women in Energy Committee if they had an idea for a networking event promoting women.
