Egypt’s Labor Ministry Unveils Strategy For Empowering Working Women

by Mona Yousef

Egypt’s Labor Minister, Hassan Shehata, announced a strategic plan to empower working women economically and socially, achieving gender equality in the workplace. This initiative follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and reflects the government’s commitment to recognizing women’s vital role in the nation’s development.

“Empowering women economically and equipping them with in-demand skills are top priorities for the Labor Ministry,” Minister Shehata declared in a statement to MENA. The Ministry offers various training programs and facilitates job opportunities for women through employment forums co-organized with the private sector.

Minister Shehata highlighted the success in reducing female unemployment. “Thanks to the government’s support for women, the unemployment rate among women has significantly decreased in recent years, dropping from 24.8% in 2014 to 17.7% presently,” he stated.

He emphasized that gender equality and women’s empowerment are central to sustainable human development. “The Ministry established a dedicated unit to promote gender equality and eliminate workplace discrimination against women,” Minister Shehata explained. “This unprecedented initiative aims to integrate women seamlessly into the workforce, provide support for their participation in the private sector, and expand their economic opportunities.”

The Ministry collaborates with international partners like the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU) to deliver training programs specifically designed for women.

Minister Shehata concluded by expressing his gratitude to all Egyptian women, especially working women, who tirelessly contribute to the nation’s progress. “Egyptian women exemplify dedication and are key partners in building a new republic,” he remarked.
