Egypt is preparing to launch the fifth edition of the “Reviving Roots” initiative upon a request by the government of Cyprus.

The government of Cyprus formally requested this initiative, and recently, the Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, Soha Gendi, visited Cyprus to meet with the Cypriot Presidential Commissioner for Diaspora and Repatriates, Marios Lysiotis. During the meeting, both officials emphasized the importance of implementing the initiative, initially launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in 2017.

Gendi expressed Egypt’s eagerness to achieve greater levels of rapprochement between the world’s peoples, highlighting Egypt’s cosmopolitan nature and its long history of welcoming and celebrating different cultures and civilizations.

The Cypriot official also called for the development of joint programs involving young people and ex-pats from Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus to help revive the shared roots, history, and culture of these three unique countries.
