According to Egypt today, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Sunday with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani at Al Itihadiyah Presidential Palace to confer on bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The meeting discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, and energy security, particularly in the field of natural gas, through Egypt’s existing strategic partnership with Italy’s Eni.

The talks equally covered the efforts deployed by Egypt to combat illegal migration as well as terrorism and extremist thought. In that area, the minister commended the role of Egypt in promoting the principles of tolerance and freedom of belief.

The minister also mentioned the legal case of Italian student Giulio Regeni, who was murdered in Egypt a few years ago and asked for help in uncovering the truth and achieving justice.
