by Nada Khaled

Earlier this week, Egypt managed to retrieve a stolen fragment of a 3,400-year-old statue of Ramses II from Switzerland.

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture returned the fragment to the Egyptian embassy in Switzerland.

The stolen part of Ramses II’s statue was seized in Geneva as part of criminal proceedings.

According to the culture ministry, the ancient fragment is part of a group statue that represents the renowned pharaoh Ramses II seated among various Egyptian gods.

It is worth mentioning that the recently retrieved fragment was stolen from the Temple of Ramses II in Abydos between the late 1980s and early 1990s.
