Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad has urged for African efforts and voices to be united at the next UN Climate Conference (COP 28) in Dubai this November.

Recently, Yasmine Fouad, the African Minister of Environment, attended the nineteenth session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) in Addis Ababa.

During the conference, Fouad encouraged African nations to collaborate and unite in preparation for the upcoming UN Climate Conference (COP 28) in Dubai this November.

Fouad discussed Egypt’s initiatives launched during the COP27 Climate Summit in 2022, which aimed to address climate change through science, solutions, and financing. She also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to integrate the environmental dimension into national plans and projects, including allocating a day for biodiversity during the COP27 climate conference.

The conference’s theme was “Seizing opportunities and enhancing collaboration to address environmental challenges in Africa,” and it aimed to enhance cooperation between institutions and improve the implementation of regional and global environmental frameworks. Fouad participated in the ministerial session on “green investment,” where she shared Egypt’s goal of making all state projects green by 2030 and accelerating investments in technology and capacity development in Africa. Participating as a main speaker in the “Climate Financing and Biodiversity Financing” session, Fouad highlighted the importance of the upcoming event of COP 28 in ensuring the mobilization of $20 billion in financing for the Biodiversity Fund and not just focusing on obtaining $100 billion dollars in climate finance.

Additionally, Fouad held a number of bilateral meetings with her Kenyan counterpart, Hon. Soipan Tuya, and the President-designate of COP 28 Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber.
