Signaling Egypt’s continued dominance in global squash, the Egyptian Squash Federation, under the leadership of President Amina El-Trabelsi, has officially appointed Sarah El-Naamani to chair the organizing committee for the upcoming World Junior Squash Championships Under-19, set to take place from July 21 to August 1, 2025, at the state-of-the-art Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo.
The tournament, sanctioned by the World Squash Federation (WSF), marks a historic return: it is the first time Egypt will host the boys’ championship since 1996 and the girls’ edition since 2003—a significant milestone in the nation’s long-standing squash legacy.
Joining the leadership team, Engineer Tamer Mamdouh has been appointed Tournament Director, underscoring the Federation’s commitment to operational excellence and world-class event management.
A Powerhouse Nation in Junior Squash
Egypt’s selection as host follows a record-breaking performance at last year’s tournament in Houston, Texas, where Mohamed Zakaria and Amina Orfi captured individual titles—further cementing Egypt’s position as the undisputed global powerhouse in junior squash.
To date, Egypt has claimed the junior men’s title 15 times, with Zakaria’s win in Houston being the latest. On the women’s side, the nation boasts 16 titles, most recently earned by the prodigious Amina Orfi.
Orfi, already a three-time world champion, now stands on the brink of history. A fourth consecutive title would see her surpass the legendary Nour El Sherbini, who previously held the record with three titles, to become the most decorated junior squash player in the world.
Strategic Importance and National Prestige
The return of the World Junior Squash Championships to Egyptian soil is not merely symbolic. It reflects a broader strategic ambition to consolidate Egypt’s leadership in squash and strengthen its status as a global sports hub.
“Bringing this championship back to Egypt after decades reaffirms our dedication to youth development and international excellence,” said Federation President Amina El-Trabelsi in an official statement. “Our young athletes continue to inspire, and we are honored to host the world on our courts.”
The Black Ball Club, known for its cutting-edge squash facilities and experience hosting major international tournaments, is expected to deliver an exceptional championship experience, combining world-class competition with unmatched Egyptian hospitality.
Rising Stars
All eyes will be on Amina Orfi and Mohamed Zakaria as they prepare to defend their titles on home turf. Zakaria’s triumph in Houston ended a drought that began after Mostafa Asal’s 2019 victory, marking a return to form for Egyptian junior men.
