Egypt Launches Training, Funding Programs at Universities as Part of ‘Productive Student’ Initiative

by Asmaa Elwahy

On Monday, Nevine al-Qabbaj, the Minister of Social Solidarity, announced the launch of the “Productive Student” initiative’s training programs.

These programs will benefit 10,000 university students across 32 public and private universities, and will run until September. Additionally, the initiative includes 5,000 funding opportunities worth LE10,000 – LE15,000 each.

In December, Minister al-Qabaj launched the second phase of the “Equal Opportunities” program, which aims to support outstanding, disabled, and low-income students. This program was initiated by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in early 2021.

As part of this program, the Ministry of Social Solidarity distributed computers to visually-impaired junior, senior, and graduate students at 30 universities.

They also collaborated with the “Ataa” investment fund to enable visually-impaired students to join more schools. Furthermore, they partnered with Al Gameya Al Shareya, an NGO, to provide scholarships to 1,500 students at 300 schools across 30 universities. These students will receive a monthly allowance, health insurance, financing for research projects, and the opportunity to participate in international academic conferences.

The second phase of the “Equal Opportunities” program will focus on providing 1,500 laptops to visually-impaired students, 700 wheelchairs to students with disabilities, and hearing assistive devices. Additionally, 3,000 scholarships will be offered to outstanding students.
