Egypt fruits & vegetables exports up 16% in 7 months: Minister

During the first seven months of 2023, Egypt’s fruit and vegetable exports reached $2.6 billion, according to Ministry of Agriculture Spokesperson Mohamed El-Qersh.

In an interview with the TV program Ala Masouliyati on Sada El-Balad TV, El-Qersh noted that the volume of vegetables and fresh fruits exported had increased to 5.1 million tons from January to July of this year, up from 4.4 million tons in the same period in 2022.

Egypt is currently producing 23 million tons of vegetables, which are exported to over 160 countries. In 2022, agricultural exports reached a record-breaking 6.5 million tons, valued at $3.3 billion. El-Qersh mentioned the many agricultural expansions in Egypt and the excellent development in the productivity and quality of farm crops.

 He emphasized the benefits of greenhouses, which provide high-quality produce that can compete globally and offer thousands of job opportunities for Egyptians, especially during times of high prices or off-season periods.

Greenhouses also provide citizens with their vegetable and fruit needs and are exported abroad. El-Qersh highlighted that greenhouses use modern irrigation methods that decrease the unit of water use.

He stressed that the greenhouse project in “Mohamed Naguib” is the future of food in Egypt.On Saturday, Egypt’s fruit and vegetable exports reached $2.6 billion during the first seven months of 2023, Ministry of Agriculture Spokesperson Mohamed El-Qersh stated.

He said that Egypt is currently producing 23 million tons of vegetables, which are being exported to more than 160 countries.

In 2022, agricultural exports hit a record 6.5 million tons – with a total value of $3.3 billion.

He noted that there are many agricultural expansions in Egypt, and there is an excellent development in the productivity of farm crops and the quality of produce.

He touched on the fact that “greenhouses enable us to provide a high-quality product that can compete globally” and that green-house provides thousands of job opportunities for Egyptians, face high prices, and produce at times other than regular periods.

He affirmed that Egypt has achieved complete self-sufficiency in all kinds of vegetables, thanks to the implementation of various agricultural projects by the state

Additionally, he mentioned that modern irrigation methods are used in greenhouses, resulting in reduced water usage. Finally, he emphasized that the greenhouse project in “Mohamed Naguib” is the future of food in Egypt.
